When dinner for one becomes dinner for two
Hosting season forever, and my lover girl era well and truly in flow
I actually only started getting into hosting when I first moved out to Japan, living in a house of five and constantly having friends over: big plates of karaage, BBQ’s, udon: easy and filling was the aim.

Moving into a studio flat alone meant hosting became a lot more intimate, lots of little dishes for a friend (or max two, I only had two stools so I’d be standing/ cooking/ chatting). A lot of the time, cooking alone means natto on rice and a side or two, which I actually love but it is very much giving girl dinner lol.

The perks of long distance (surprisingly) are the times when you’re together again and having the enjoyment of normal, daily life - and mainly, getting to eat and talk with someone and the joy you get from cooking for people you love. London sees us eating a lot of sardines on toast, Ottolenghi inspired dishes and pasta whereas Tokyo is the chance to be free and fun with Japanese produce (heaven, honestly). As much as I love to eat out, cooking at home trumps all. So here are a few things I’ve made below with a few loose recipes (full videos will be out in the next few weeks!)
